1. Operations Planning
a. 90 days to Op
i. Report to S3 for duty with initial OP concepts and genre
1. Discuss and review with S3
2. Identify Historical context for OP
ii. Write up Web Blurb and a Warning Order for the Warriors List
iii. S2 Posts Web blurb (S3 coordinates when required)
iv. AO selection (may be pre-selected in yearly planning
1. Begin to study maps and requirements for specific AO
v. Determine what special props, vehicles, or equipment desired
1. Check availability with owners
2. Seek S3 approval before any costs are incurred
b. 60 days to Op
i. Develop Flow Of Battle (FOB) sketches (.PPT format is standard)
1. SAMPLE.PPT or SAMPLE 2.PPT
2. Flow of each evolution w/o scenario overlay
a. Attack/Defend, Tactical Withdrawal, DEMO, Ambush, etc
3. These are very schematic and do not have any scenario details attached. "This team goes here that team goes there".
c. 30 days to Op
i. Send Warning Order at the end of the previous month
ii. Develop Op Outline - story line of the scenario w/ historical context
1. Review with S3
iii. S3 - AO Map Development - Aerial or Topo, Grid, compass rose.
1. May require recon to AO.
iv. Define Op Command Structure
1. Approach individuals to be commanders or special characters
d. 14 days to Op
i. “Flush-Out” FOBs into Op Orders for each EVO (.DOC format std.)
1. SAMPLE OpOrders.doc & SAMPLE 2 OpOrders.doc
a. 2 columns helps in planning mission interactions
i. Radio Plan
ii. Vehicle Plan
iii. Regen Plan
ii. S3 – Review & Revision - Would these orders produce the desired scripted effect? Do we have "Real time safety valves" to heat up or cool-off the EVO
e. 7 days to Op
i. S3 – review & revision
ii. Coordinate Op Orders and map generation
iii. Confirm acting commanders
iv. Determine GO-NO GO status for props, vehicles, equipment
2. Downrange Operations
a. Arrive Early - Maintain an Air of Confidence and Decisiveness
b. Spearhead AO setup and assign tasks where needed
c. Report to S3 with any progress or problems
d. Brief Force Commanders to allow for them to set their strategies
e. Give morning OP briefing to troops
f. Act as HQ during EVO
g. Make adjustments as required on consult w/ S3 and Force Commanders
i. This must be transparent to troops
3. Post- Operations
a. AAR – write-up, solicit Commander After Action Reports (AARs) and any write-ups from troops.
b. Solicit pictures and videos from all in attendance
c. Transfer to S2/S5 for posting to webpage
